"it's so nice to
see, all the folks you love together.. sitting here talking about
all the things that's been going down. It's been a long,
long time since we had a chance to get together. Nobody knows
the next time we see each other may be years, and years from now.
...A family reunion. It's so nice to come together, to get
together.."
Welcome home! It is so good to see you!
We have been waiting for you
The Republic of Benin, formerly
Dahomey, has long planned for the return of those who left
through the point of "no return". The above depiction of the
majestic memorial in
Ouidah, called the arch of "No Return" built by the families we
left behind, stands on the spot where many of of our ancestors were last
seen and the last memory they themselves had of their beloved country.
It is also at this site, every January, that our families have gathered, and
gather to this day, to make prayers for our safe return to a devastated Mother
and Fatherland.
2006 marks a milestone in history; we
will be returning to the place where
slave trading
was most prolific and welcomed home by Traditional Rulers. A
joyous reunion is planned once we
reach Benin, escorted by Royal Motorcade from the Togolese Border.
This trip also marks another historic event; we
will be formally received by our sister, now Princess Ademide
Adinasse, the first African American person to be restored to Royal
bloodlines using traditional methods. Princess Adinasse is now the daughter of the Oba
(King) Alaketu. Further, her family's right to ascend throne,
which was lost during enslavement, has been restored. The Princess will not only welcome us home, but with her
family, apologize for their role in the trans-atlantic slave genocide.
There is much
rejoicing in Benin and parts of Yorubaland that we are returning to The
Source to reconcile with the Mother who has missed us...Africa.
History in the making...join us for what promises to be
not only a historic, but emotional and healing reunion with the
families we left behind.
